Riverside Café

The Visitor Centre Riverside Café is a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a cake. Overlooking the River Misbourne, our veranda and picnic area is the ideal spot where you can sit and take in the view. Treat yourself in our refurbished cafe, serving cooked lunches, flatbread, freshly made sandwiches, and a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. Or spread out a blanket for your own picnic whilst the children play in the Adventure Zone playground.

There is a small shop that sells reasonably-priced toys, river-dipping nets, and buckets and spades for the sand pit in the playground. Leaflets and books of local walks are available to help you explore the Colne Valley Regional Park, and a web cam allows you to watch the birds in real time when they are setting up home in our nesting box.

The Adventure Zone is a large wooden playground that includes a sandpit.

There is a brass-rubbing trail, and orienteering maps are available in the Visitor Centre for a nominal charge.

There is also a pretty, easy access, countryside walk of approximately one mile, that takes you through a wetland meadow, a woodland and past two rivers and the Grand Union Canal.

There is a gentle sloping access to the Misbourne Chalk Stream outside the cafe, which is an ideal spot to go river dipping. Look out for expert-led river dipping sessions in the school holidays.

Toilets, including disabled and baby changing facilities, are available on site.

Misbourne River located next to The Visitor Centre Riverside Café. Great place for River dipping.

Events at the Visitor Centre, Denham

The Groundwork Team organises events all year round at the Visitor Centre. These range from activities to occupy children during the holidays that take full advantage of our country setting, to two annual festivals. We also hold children’s Green and Wild Parties.

But if you would rather do something on your own – a self guided walk for instance – we can advise on that, too. Here are some of the walks you can take from the Visitor Centre, suitable for all ages 4+, with maps sold at £1. Call 01895 833375 for more details.
