Local events for February flowing through the valley….

This is the year for many to get more outdoor active and to get closer to nature. Here at the Colne Valley Regional Park we have lots of wonderful places and activities for everybody.  Our Rural Gem Pubs and Cafes also have great events and as we know many of you enjoy them, we have included some new additions. Wow it is a busy month! Here are a few possibilities…

Wildlife Events

Wildlife spotting for families – Saturday 8th February 2020 – Stockers Lake, Rickmansworth. Come along to this family introduction to wildlife spotting. Work together to tick off as many things as you can on our specially designed spotter sheets. Expect to see lots of different ducks, thrushes and finches. Perfect for families and beginners. Know before you go: No dogs permitted and booking required Facilities: Toilets and Cafe/refreshments  with the lovely Café in the Park at Rickmansworth Aquadrome.

Discover Maple Lodge Nature Reserve – Sunday 16th February

Enjoy a private group tour around one of Hertfordshire’s hidden secrets – home to a rich variety of wildlife including wildfowl, woodland birds and bats.  Know before you go: No dogs permitted.

Half-Term and Children’s Activities

Iver Environment Centre

Lots of great adventure events for children to get outdoors and closer to nature. Activities include, an early year’s morning with nature play, learning about birds and making a bird feeder to take home. A Backwoods cooking drop off session for ages 8+ with campfires, cooking rustic style and eating of course! And lastly a Beautiful Birds event with a trail, workshop and creation of a bird feeder to take home.

Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre – Denham Country Park

Lots of great nature events for children to get creative. Events include; –  Winter tree scene creating, play with clay, get growing with bulb planting and a bit of outdoor magic with creating pixie dens. You can enjoy the café and woodland playground whilst you visit. Nathan’s Farm – Chalfont St.Giles

Your local family run farm set in 120 acres of land with a good range of farm animals. Why not visit at the weekend or in half term to see and feed the animals? With a farm shop, cafe and toilets available. https://www.facebook.com/nathansfarm/

Black Park Forest School – “Tots go wild”. Black Park, Slough, Bucks.

This is a paid event and has a variety of led activities offered each week where your toddler can get messy and creative with lots of activities, toast marshmallows, sing songs and lots more. Tots Go Wild sessions take place every Friday at either 10am-11.30am or 1pm-2.30pm during term time in Black Park. https://countryparks.buckscc.gov.uk/forest-school/

Outdoor Active

Simply Walk … your way to a better health in Iver Village – Saturday 15th February and run on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Meet at 2pm in the car park behind the Village Hall, Grange Way, SL0 9QA – All Welcome for a walk of around 90 minutes with tea and cake at a High St. Café afterwards.    There are also group walks available in Denham, Black Park, Langley Park and The Chalfonts, visit the website fore more information and enjoy a great walk!  www.buckscc.gov.uk/simplywalk

Weekly park run at Rickmansworth Aquadrome and Black Park, Slough – Free 5K run every Saturday at 09:00. Take time out for to improve your wellbeing and enjoy the scenery! To take part register on https://www.parkrun.org.uk/events/

Dog Walks

Monthly Dog Walk with the Rose and Crown, Rickmansworth /Harefield on Sunday 9th of February at 10am and every 2nd Sunday of the month. They even have a doggy station with water and biscuits. https://www.facebook.com/theroseandcrownrickmansworth/

Taproom Quiz- The Creative Juices Brewing Company at Woodaoks Farm, Denham Way, Maple Cross.  This is a fairly new tap room and a completely unique venue to come and experience – Thursday the 6th of February at 7:30. Only £1 per team member.

Pub Quiz – The Green Man, Denham.

Held every Thursday from 9pm! Only £1 to play! Gather friends and family and test those brain cells on your music, film, science, history, sport and geography knowledge.
