About the project:

Groundwork South and its partners have secured £2.5 million in funding to improve the Colne Valley Regional Park for people and wildlife. The Colne Valley stretches from Staines in the south to Rickmansworth in the north and covers 43 square miles. One of the aims of this project is to improve the access to the park to encourage people to engage with the countryside around them. As a result we will be funding the improvement of 12 sections of footpath with a total cost of £4,000 per project and an extra £2,000 for an interpretation board at each site. This document outlines the ways in which you can apply for funding and what type of work qualifies.

Path requirements:

In order to qualify for a £6,000 funding pot a path must meet the following requirements:

  • The path must either be within the Colne Valley Park or help people to access the park.
  • The path must be in need of repair/work and not currently being repaired by someone else.
  • Priority will go to path repairs that involve community engagement in some way. This could be through volunteering or through the support of a local community group.

What kind of work qualifies?

Path improvement isn’t always about re-surfacing. Any of the following improvements could qualify for funding and others may be considered if you contact us:

  • Path resurfacing.
  • Path edging.
  • Boardwalk creation.
  • Addition of steps or a ramp.
  • Addition of a bench or other outdoor furniture.
  • Improvement of the path via new plants etc.
  • Invasive species removal, particularly of dangerous plants like giant hogweed.
  • Improved signage.
