5th August 2025

In 2024 and 2025 Buckinghamshire Council Country Park Team have been carrying out improvements to Denham Country Park following on from National Grid pylon relocation works in association with the HS2 viaduct, and after a long period when extensive areas of the park were inaccessible.

The scope of the works was:

  • Resurfacing of over 1km of paths
  • Replacement of 5 pedestrian bridges over ditches
  • Replacement of the large bridge over the River Colne on the east side
  • Ditch creation and restoration to manage flooding and improve habitats, particularly for water voles
  • Creation of a series of ponds and scrapes within the meadow area between the paths and the canal
  • Invasive species management

The above works are now complete and the area is open for public access as far as the entrance to Widow’s Cruise Covert at the northern end of the park.
These improvements have been funded by HS2, National Grid and Buckinghamshire Council Country Parks.

Future Access Improvements

The Country Parks team have now received confirmation of funding to improve access between the two bridges in Widow’s Cruise Covert at the northern end of the park, with plans including installation of a boardwalk.
This will result in the reopening of the circular route incorporating Denham Green and Denham Station, Denham Country Park and Denham Village. These works are expected to take place in 2026.
