building is then interpreted to tell the unique story of the Chilterns, its people, crafts, history and traditions.

The site is a spacious 45 acres and includes over 30 reconstructed historic buildings including; a 1940s prefab, blacksmiths forge, toll house, Victorian earth cottage, tin chapel, furniture factory, replica Iron Age roundhouse, medieval barns, World War Nissen huts and more. There is a working historical farm with livestock including goats, sheep, chickens and cows.

In addition to the buildings the Museum has a woodland, adventure playground and café. There are lots of annual special events including historical re-enactments and family activity days.

The wide variety of historic buildings means the Museum is a popular filming venue and had been used

for Downton Abbey, Midsomer Murders, Horrible Histories, Mary Queen of Scots, Countryfile, Call the Midwife, Grantchester, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher and more!

Join the team at Chiltern Open Air Museum on Good Friday for a fun-filled family friendly Easter themed event!

This Good Friday there will be a bumper collection of Easter activities for to be enjoyed including guided craft makes, storytelling and pre-booked sessions in their Easter photo studio .

Discover their fascinating historic buildings and expansive grounds, taking in the sights and sounds of spring. Explore their gardens to see the spring flowers emerging and say hello to the new-born lambs in their lambing field.

Travel back in time in their collection of buildings from around the Chilterns – from a replica Iron age roundhouse to the 1970s kids bedroom of our Victorian cottage. Visit the 1950s in our prefab or imagine life in the 18th Century in Leagrave Cottage.

Learn about the two world wars in their Nissen huts or what lessons were like in a Victorian schoolroom.

Visit their heritage farm and learn about traditional rural life in the Chilterns.

Play in their adventure playground, have fun following their Easter trail and take part in self-led family activities.
