The Colne Valley is the first taste of countryside to the west of London. With 10 million people living within 15 kilometres, it acts as a green lung where residents can exercise, unwind, and connect with nature. Denham sits at the heart of the Colne Valley Regional Park and is a real gem, with its rich village history, beautiful woodlands, Denham Country Park, and the River Misbourne running through it, providing a home for a diverse mix of wildlife.
Take a rail journey to the countryside, alight at Denham or Denham Golf Club station and follow the trail to explore the countryside nearby. ‘Trails by Rails‘ promotes nearby nature trails to Chiltern Railway customers, encouraging them to explore the vast natural beauty that the Colne Valley Regional Park has to offer.
Chiltern Railways operate between one and two direct trains per hour from London Marylebone, bringing visitors right into the heart of the Regional Park.
There are three walking routes you can enjoy directly from the station. These include scenic paths through Denham Country Park, the historic Denham Village route—which we recommend starting from Denham Station—and the wider Denham Woodlands route, which we recommend starting from Denham Golf Club Station. For advice about access click here.
Walk 1 – Denham Circular Walk (2.7 miles)
This circular walk takes you through the beautiful countryside of Denham, including Denham Country Park and historic Denham Village.
From Denham Station, take the stairs down inside the station opposite the ticket office; turn right, and head towards the village. From there, either turn down The Pyghtle or continue straight through the golf course to begin your circular walk.
Download the circular walk here.
Please note, the point 3 on the map is currently closed due to broken bridge. Please follow the short cut at this point through the Golf Club to still enjoy this walk.
Walk 2 – Historic Denham Village to Denham Country Park (1.4 miles one way)
Start this walk from Denham Station.
This route takes you through the charming and historic Denham Village.
Follow the route shown in blue on the map below.
From Denham Station, take the stairs down inside the station opposite the ticket office, turn right, and head towards the village via The Pyghtle. In the village, you will find three characterful traditional pubs. Continue along the village road until you reach St Mary’s Church. Take the path through the churchyard and across the golf course, which will lead you to Denham Country Park and the Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre.
From here, you can extend your walk to the Grand Union Canal.
Walk 3 – Denham Woodlands Walk (5.2 miles)
If you’d like to explore further, try the Denham Woodlands Walk. This route takes you off the beaten track through ancient woodland and the beautiful Misbourne Valley. In spring, carpets of bluebells line the paths.
Download the circular walk here.
This walk is best started from Denham Golf Club Station, but it can also be started from Denham Station.
From Denham Station exit out of the station and turn left heading towards North Orbital Road, turn right, then take the next left onto Denham Green Lane. Continue along the lane, then turn right and walk until you reach Northmoor Hill Woods.
From Denham Golf Club go down Station Approach, then left turn Middle Road, then left turn again Side Road. Walk carefully across Slade Oak Lane, which takes you on a footpath, starting on point 6.

Trails by Rails – Explore the countryside from Chiltern Railways Denham stations
We’re thrilled to launch the Trails by Rails project, supported by the Chiltern Railways Community Investment Fund. This initiative encourages people living in urban areas to step outside and explore the beautiful countryside right on their doorstep.
‘Trails by Rails’ links Denham Green and Denham Golf Club stations to the stunning landscapes of the Colne Valley Regional Park. Visitors can now follow our newly installed information map at Denham Station, which you can see above, showing the route straight from the platform into nature.
To make your walk even easier, we’ve created this page where you can download the trail leaflet and find everything you need for a great day out.
What We’ve Been Working On
• Our team walked the full circular route, litter picked, and added waymarkers to guide visitors.
• We’ve installed planters and planted wildflowers around the station to boost biodiversity.
• Two guided walks are planned for spring/early summer—perfect for anyone wanting to get to know the route.
• This summer we’ll host a family event and take part in the Big Butterfly Count (17 July – 9 August).
A big thank you to Chiltern Railways and Denham Parish Council for their support. We can’t wait to see more people enjoying the countryside on their doorstep.
With thanks to…
Accessibility Notes
Steps at the station limit step-free access
Village roads are pavement but narrow in places.
Churchyard and golf course sections include grass, uneven surfaces and slopes.
Wheelchair Users
Walk 2, Historic Denham Village, is the only one of the walks that would be possible for a wheelchair user but the route would need to be adapted at the start. There is wheelchair access to the station platform provided by lifts. But the start of the walk described above involves going down the stairs inside the station, opposite the ticket office. If you are willing to detour, the start of the walk can be adapted, by exiting the station and turning left. Upon reaching the North Orbital Road, turn almost immediately right onto Station Approach, then right onto Denham Green Close. If you progress down Denham Green Close instead of turning the corner head straight on, you will then meet the Phygtle and can continue with the walk instructions for the Historic Denham Village walk above.
