Get involved and learn about how we are protecting our rivers!

Join us for a fun and educational event all about our rivers. Come learn how we take care of our rivers and how we study their health.

We’ll show you how we sample for and identify the tiny creatures that live in the river, called riverflies. Learning about riverflies helps us understand the water quality of the river and identify the effects of pollution incidents.

During the event, you’ll get to help us collect samples of these riverflies and find out how to identify the life present in our waters. It’s a fascinating way to explore nature and do something important for our rivers! This opportunity also gives you the chance to get involved in longer term monitoring of riverflies if you are interested.

Since we’ll be outside, make sure to dress warmly and wear something waterproof. We will be entering the river, so bring some wellies if you have them. But don’t worry if you don’t—we’ll have waders you can borrow.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Colne Regional Valley Country Park visitors centre to learn about local wildlife, and be part of looking after our rivers!
