Staines Moor, where semi-natural stretches of the River Colne support a diverse flora, is Surrey's largest area of alluvial meadows. Staines Moor, Staines Reservoirs and King George VI Reservoir have been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The reservoirs carry nationally important wintering populations of tufted ducks, pochard, goosander and goldeneye. (Access is by public footpaths only).
