The Slough Arm Canal

Once a bustling route for waterway commerce, the Slough Arm of the Grand Union Canal offers the visitor a unique chance to recollect Britain's industrial prosperity, whilst exploring a waterway bursting with life. Linked with the Grand Union Canal, the gateway to over 2,000miles of inland waterways, it was one of the last stretches of canal to be built in this country. It successfully competed with the neighbouring railway well into this century.

Today tourism is a thriving trade, and pleasure craft ply the route taken by those long forgotten working boats. The Slough Arm is there for all to enjoy and the sites, wildlife and overall tranquility of the area make a visit well worthwhile. A leaflet 'Exploring the Slough Arm' is available from the Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre.
