The gravel extraction that created the quarries ceased many
years ago and has left a series of lakes that run alongside the
Grand Union Canal. The area, which also takes in Fray's Meadow and
Denham Lock Wood is now owned by the London Borough of Hillingdon
and is valuable for nature conservation and informal recreation
such as walking, riding, cycling and fishing. Facilities also
include picnic sites and a car park situated off Moorhill Road
which runs from the A412 at Denham to Harvil Road, Harefield.
Alternatively visitors can park at Denham Country Park, walk to the
canal and cross over the white bridge. For further information
please contact the Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre on 01895
833375.
