Cycling
Cycling is an excellent way to explore the Colne Valley and there are several routes to choose from.
The Colne Valley Trail is a 7 mile country route linking Uxbridge with Rickmansworth running through some of the most attractive scenery in the Colne Valley with excellent views of the rivers, lakes and the Grand Union Canal. The route is shared by cyclists, walkers and horse riders and is an ideal way to reach a number of Country Parks.
Cyclists can also use bridleways (although they must give way to pedestrians and horse riders). There is a good network throughout the Valley and are marked with blue arrows. However, many of these routes do not have a hard surface and may be muddy following heavy rainfall. (Please note: cycling is NOT permitted on public footpaths marked with a yellow arrow).
Cycling maps
The Colne Valley Food Trail is a leaflet with details of all the farm shops in the Colne Valley. It also details some guided walks and a cycle ride that you can take around some of the farm shops giving you the opportunity to explore the countryside and then to visit the farm shop if you wish. You can pick up the leaflet from the farm shops featured or from the Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre. It can also be downloaded from the Colne Valley Food website.
For cycling routes in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead maps can be found by visiting www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/transport_cycleways.htm
For cycling routes in Slough a map can be found by visiting www.slough.gov.uk
You can also plan your own journey and access cycling maps at the Transport for London website.
Edgware Road Cycling Club
The club organises an annual 100km charity ride in aid of the Dave Rayner Fund (www.daveraynerfund.com). In 2008, the ride leaves from Colne Valley Vistitor Centre, Denham, at 9.30 on 10th February. Open to all – just turn up and pay a small entry fee.
