Discover the Roman and Iron Age Heritage of the Colne Valley Park for FREE
Our experienced education officer can cover Key stage 1 & 2 in History and Geography learning about the archaeology revealed through sand and gravel extraction in the Colne Valley. Our school Discovery Day consists of a trip to the active Lea Quarry to find out about the extraction process, its role in revealing our past and the impact it has on our everyday lives. The afternoon is then spent at the Colne Valley Visitor Centre looking at the archaeological discoveries of the quarry, archaeological techniques that tell us about the people and animals who lived their many years ago and hands on activities to bring history to life. Teachers take a cd of resources back to school with them.

The Colne Valley Park also run 'River
Studies' days, which include river dipping in the River
Misbourne, ‘Habitats’ and ‘The History of
Denham Village and the Grand Union Canal’.
We have our own equipment and worksheets to support these sessions
and do charge, please contact the education officer for costs.
The Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre provides all the facilities
you need for a successful trip including a small shop &
toilets. There is also a car park and an area for coaches to
park.
We run the outdoor programmes all year round but do get very busy
in the summer so book early to avoid disappointment. Schools are
also able to come and do their own visits and we have developed the
Coot Trail to guide you round.
